You are maybe not aware that in the UK there is a new number plate release twice per year. This occurs on the 1st March and the 1st September every year. Meaning if you want the most up to date car when you are looking to buy a new car these are the dates you should keep in mind. With this in mind, we decided to create a guide dedicated to the number plate!
What will the 2020 number plate be?

We can trace the UK car registration system back to The Motor Car act came into force On January 1st, and required all vehicles in the United Kingdom to carry registration number plates. County and Borough Councils originally issued the registrations and number plates. The individual councils were issued with one or more letter codes for registering vehicles, and both one and two letter codes were issued from This original system used a one or two letter area code and between one and four numbers.
For example: A1 up to AA, but by the ‘s these had run out and so a new system was needed. During the ‘s the single and double area code registrations became obsolete and 3-letter area codes became necessary. These new registrations where first used around , but due to the standard size of number plates it could only accomodate 3 numbers and these where rotated in conjunction with the first registration letter. In the ‘s the system was reversed by councils who had run out of combinations in the previous series, now with the numbers prefixing the letters e. These did not have a serial letter, the one or two letters being the area codes as originally issued in the reversed format.
Number Plate Dates
The Monarch is the only person in the country who does not need a registration mark 1 on his or her vehicle. Everyone else has to have a registered vehicle and from the first registration ‘A1’, issued by London Council in , to the present there have been several systems of issuing these combinations of numbers and letters. As you can soon work out one letter and one number works for only a few vehicles.
The system became two letters and four numbers until the s. Then the system was changed to three letters followed by three numbers.

Marc Ackerley R with Lawrence Cookson L , who developed the app, was fed up with missing out on offers of dates so created a way of tracking someone down via their car registration.
Fuelled by this new-found female attention and his worry that he was missing out on offers from women who had admired him and his car from afar but wouldn’t think of contacting a car dealership, the businessman set up Platewave. The app which allows admirers to contact any car owner in the country. All you do is sign up to the website or app and send a message or a ‘wave’ to any registration plate. The recipient can only see it if they sign up to the app themselves and when they do, their messages will be waiting for them.
